Book Review (20%):
The book review paper will involve choosing one of the following four books and writing an incisive essay on the work. This paper should concisely summarize and critique the author"s main arguments. The length of the paper should be between 5-7 pages, double-spaced.

• Orville Schell and John Delury, Wealth and Power: China"s Long March to the Twenty-first Century (Random House Trade Paperbacks; September 9, 2014)

• Richard McGregor, The Party: The Secret World of China’s Communist Rulers (Harper Perennial; July 31, 2012)
Format of Papers: All papers should be double-spaced in 12-point Times New Roman font. They should include page numbers and have 1-inch margins on all sides. Please use the author-date system for citation (known as Chicago or Turabian style). You can use either footnotes or parenthetical in-text citation (i.e. Schoppa 2010, 52-3). Just be consistent. You should list full citations only at the end of the paper in the bibliography.
