toddler with laptop computerDigital literacy is the ability to learn, locate and understand information from a broad range of digital devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops and desktop PCs, all of which are seen as network rather than computing devices. In an educational setting, our goal is to help children use available technology to support their learning. Many professionals go one step further by teaching children what it means to be a digital citizen, someone who uses digital devices wisely and is able to regulate personal usage, or avoid bullying and smear campaigns.

Consider the technology that is used in your program. How does it support learning?

Media literacy is a repertoire of competencies that enable people to analyze, evaluate, and create messages in a wide variety of media modes, genres, and formats. The purpose of media literacy education is to help children develop the habits of inquiry and skills of expression needed to be critical thinkers, effective communicators, and active citizens in todays’ world (NAMLE, 2007). Media literacy is about helping children develop the life skills they need to become thinkers and makers in a multimedia environment. Your readings provide some key questions you can ask children when analyzing media messages (around authors & audiences, messages & messaging, representations & reality). Consider the technology that is used in your classroom or program. How does it support critical thinking?

Technology can be used to quiz children with simple addition and subtraction applications or it can be used to support dual language learners, children with special needs, or STEM activities through open-ended applications. Which uses will encourage critical thinking skills? Review the current uses of technology in your classroom or program. What is the intended use and/or benefit?

There is no assigned reading just search the web to find the research regarding Young Children and technology in early childhood. All the writer has to do is find information on the web about the title of the research paper I have provided which is young children and technology in the early childhood stage.
