The concept of the development of a community garden began in the 1800s when an array of different reformers attempted to be a part of the civic beatification movement. During this time period, the cities that were strongly associated with the movement included Detroit, Chicago and Washington D.C. Furthermore, it should also be known that the community gardens were built so that assistance could be provided to the workers who were unemployed in large cities. The gardens were also developed in order to teach the idea of civic duty to young individuals (Lovell, 2014)...
