Soviet experience in the 1930

ORDER NOW

You will need to submit an annotated bibliography that includes at least 10 sources.
Organize your sources into three categories: primary sources, academic sources, and general sources. By academic sources I mean scholarly monographs or articles from peer-reviewed journals. If these terms are unfamiliar to you, please consult with a UMUC librarian.
You will need to list at least 3 primary sources and 3 academic sources.
Your entries should conform to formatting standards for Chicago Style citations.
For each, entry you should include a 1-3 sentence explanation of how this item will contribute to your paper.
For example:
Dolot, Miron. Execution by Hunger: the Hidden Holocaust. New York: W.W. Norton & Co., 1985.
This is a book-length eyewitness account of the Ukrainian famine in one village. In addition to its depiction of the suffering endured by Ukrainian peasants, Dolot vividly describes interactions with Party and State officials sent to the village to enforce procurement quotas.

In a 10 page paper you will evaluate the evidence that we have reviewed in the course as well as whatever additional evidence you have gathered on your own address the question of how we should properly interpret the Soviet experience in the 1930s. As your starting point, you will adopt one of the two following broad characterizations:
The hardships endured by the Soviet population during the 1930s were primarily the result of misguided policies -- as well as some malevolent behavior -- and served primarily to weaken the country economically and militarily.
The hardships endured by the Soviet population during the 1930s were an unfortunate but necessary result of an economic transformation that strengthened the Soviet Union to the point that it was able to conduct itself as an industrial power by the end of the decade capable of defending itself.
As you develop your paper, you should further refine your interpretation, perhaps focusing on one of the aspects of Stalinism in the 1930s that we reviewed in the course. Your paper should incorporate a variety of primary and scholarly sources (at least 5 of each). You must annotate the evidence you rely on to make assertions and draw conclusions in properly formatted endnotes. Your analysis should explain why you attribute more value to some sources over others.
