Roman Athens

The development of Athens’ urban fabric only in Roman period. Ultimately, I want
to form a picture of how the city developed and why it is treated in that way in the
Roman period. You will not be able to cover every aspect of Roman Athens and I
would rather you focus on THESE 5 buildings ( ODEION of AGRIPPA, TOWER OF
THE WINDS, LIBRARY OF HADRIAN, OLYMPIEON AND THE ARCH OF
HADRIAN) and a particular ruler- Hadrian, instead of trying to cover everything or
giving a general overview.
Think about what is added to the city, what form this takes, and why. Please include
the Roman architectural and artistic details around these 5 monuments- you will find
everything in the attached pdfs and in the 3 links above:

Kleiner at Yale is very helpful. Please see the monuments)

Please focus chronologically only on these 5 monuments of Roman Athens( not for
instance at the monuments of Hellenistic or Classical Athens) .
You need to be thorough in your coverage of the critical landscape. • I am looking
forward of work of exceptional standard that will reflect outstanding knowledge of
material as well as strong critical ability- purposeful
