1. Highlight the connections between design and concurrent political, social and economic events, focusing on three or more of the design movements covered during the first seven weeks of the semester. (From the Industrial Revolution to the 1940s)

2. How has technology influenced design evolution from the mid-nineteenth century to the 1940s? Discuss the influence, use and continued exploration of these technologies beyond the Industrial Revolution. Consider general technological advances in graphic design tools, printing processes and other image creation and reproduction techniques. How do technological advances change how designers and critics think about graphic design and how do these advances affect design practices?

3. Discuss the parallel evolution of design and other intellectual, philosophical, political, and scientific achievements from the Industrial Revolution to the 1940s. You can reduce the scope of your essay by topic, chronologically or by school of thought or school of design. Discuss these developments in terms of two or more design movements.
