HIV and Infant Feeding in Sub-Saharan Africa

ORDER NOW

Systematic review of adherence to exclusive breastfeeding (and related predictors/correlates) in Africa among HIV-positive mothers. Have begun review (attached) and need to assess remaining articles, have evidence table completed, and summarize results of review. Can send PDF versions of remaining articles to be assessed if necessary (see excel sheet). Paper doesn"t really need to be 20 pages, the product is mostly the excel table (in fact, shorter is better) but thought that was a good assessment of the amount of work.

Purpose
The objective of the systematic review was to pool and evaluate data on infant feeding decision-making and practices among HIV-positive mothers in sub-Saharan Africa, with a specific focus on exclusive breastfeeding within 6-months of childbirth. Secondarily, the review was designed to collect data on predictive or associated determinants of infant feeding decision and practice.

Research Questions

1. What proportion of HIV-positive mothers in sub-Saharan Africa choose exclusively breastfeeding for 6 months, as opposed to replacement feeding (eg. formula feeding) or mixed feeding?
2. A) What proportion of HIV-positive mothers in sub-Saharan Africa who choose to exclusively breastfeed for 6 months are successful in accomplishing this behavior?
B) Among those who do not continue breastfeeding until 6 months, at what time point do they discontinue this behavior?
3. What personal and/or environmental factors are known to be significantly predictive or associated with exclusive breastfeeding decision-making and/or practice?
