health promotion with smoking cessation

Guidelines for Individual Health Promotion Project

I have always taken issue with the term ‘noncompliant’: perhaps it is because I view this as a label, and one which could easily apply to ME! My use of the term therefore is not meant to label an individual, but rather a behavior arising from a variety of root causes.
There are many reasons why one doesn’t pursue health-seeking behaviors: lack of understanding, inability to access necessary tools, personal conflict, etc. Whatever the reason, noncompliance is a major problem that causes an increase in suffering and health care costs. The suffering is not just to patients or the families; entire communities and health care professionals are affected as well! Current resources are burdened and health care costs are affected by poor health outcomes....
Think of an example of a noncompliant or self-destructive health behavior related to a Health Priority (ex: COPD patient who still smokes, AMI patient who won’t change their dietary habits, or lack of exercise in children, etc.): all examples of behaviors that conflict with the positive outcomes needed to move towards wellness.  How can the professional RN help motivate these types of patients to regain/improve their health? Use the rubric below to guide you in developing a 1200 – 1400-word paper, and an associated pertinent clinical presentation.
