Description:
a 3 page analytical response paper to Anton Chkhov"s play: The Cherry Orchard. Specifically the version translated by Paul Schmidt. The paper must be 850-1000 words in length. Citations are not needed, but you must make a reference to which act you are referring to in the play. This is not meant to be a summary paper, but an analytical response to it. Specific questions that should be answered in the paper are:
1. Why / how is this play a comedy? (Comedy by default, as it does not fit into any other category?)
2. What impact does the ending have on the audience? (The audience does not leave the play unsatified or feeling sympathetic towards the characters, as the ending can be interpreted as "good.")
3. How is this play unconventional? (There is no specific "main" character, nor is there really an antagonist. There is a good ending, despite assumption that it would not turn out that way. Most questions are answered by the end.)
These are the other requirements for the paper:
1. Must used varied and correct punctuation whenever possible. Specifically commas, semi-colons, and colons.
2. Must used varied and complete sentence structure. Cannot begin each sentence with the subject of the sentence.
3. Must use synonyms whenever possible. Do not use the same words over and over.
4. Must not be obvious that it was not proof read. A couple mistakes are okay, but obvious mistakes are very costly.
